Australia’s World Wakeboarding champion Courtney Angus has only just celebrated her 21st birthday, following her breakout year on the international wakeboarding scene

In 2013, Courtney enjoyed a whirlwind of successes stretching the length and breadth of the globe, performing in elite competition throughout Europe, China and the United States culminating in her maiden open-class World title success in Abu Dhabi. 

While at home in Australia, Courtney hones her skills out of her Sydney base at Penrith’s Cables Wake Park, fine tuning her style and introducing new high-flying aerials that will be part of her 2014 competitive repertoire.

“Last year I also placed second in the World Triple Crown Series, the US Nationals and Wakestock in the UK, so the consistency was there and now it’s a case of upping the ante and making everything stick this year.

“World Titles success also brought with it a new sponsor so I’ll be riding for the Hyperlite International team this year which I’m really looking forward to.

“While back home in Australia I also claimed victories in five of the seven Pro events I competed in, so I’m amped and ready to take my wakeboarding to a whole new level in 2014.”

Worldwide, wakeboarding competition in the pro events are contested by the best-of-the-best, all gunning for numerous prized titles and culminating in the World Champs in October at Abu Dhabi that attract athletes from more than 20 countries.

While Courtney is the youngest ever Pro Women’s Features World champion, she does possess World Title pedigree, claiming her first international crown in the under 14’s age group in 2005.

This instinctive Aussie wake rider has competed in National level competition since she was seven years of age and as World Champion is intent on introducing more Aussie youngsters into the sport over coming years.
