The Boom on Temple continues off the track

It seems that you can’t keep BRT former race track stars out of the headlines even in their post racing careers. Whilst Spirit of Boom has been getting all the press over the past 18 months with his feats in the breeding barn accruing 301 mares in his 1st 2 seasons at stud it seems his Group 1 winning big brother Temple of Boom has also found his niche post racing.

In his first foray into the world of Equestrian and Eventing he took all before him winning 3 categories culminating in being named Champion racehorse in training at the Ekka in Brisbane. It again pays testament to the Gollan Racing stable who have an incredible record in finding all their racehorses a career once their work on the race track ends. A special mention has to go to Jane Gollan who is the driving force behind the re-education of racehorses and has done all the work with Temple since he retired.

We are now well and truly into the foaling down season and with that comes the excitement and anxiousness for breeders. Whilst most hope for a colt, at the end of the day I think we all just hope for a healthy new addition to our thoroughbred families. We are yet to have a foal but as we speak our mare Miss Leibert has been bought in from the paddock in anticipation. This mare had a cracking Spirit of Boom last year and we are hoping for the same again.

It also means that the serving season is all but 3 weeks away and Studs are holding their open days all around the country. We are excited to next week visit Widden Stud to check out their stallions and of course Angelic Light who was served by Sebring last year. We will also attend other studs including the open day at Eureka Stud which will be in Early September.

One of the relationships we have built over the past 12 months has been with Three Bridges Thoroughbreds. We bought 2 mares in foal off them last year and are happy with both subsequent foals. One of those mares we bought was a More than Ready mare named Ready to Belong whose mother Belong to Many had a cult following on the track and it seems she will develop one as a broodmare with her getting success in the breeding barn as well. She has the very promising Majestic Lass who has black type written all over her as her only runner to date. With 2 Sepoy colts on the ground and being served last year by the sire of the moment I am Invincible there is plenty to like about her.

Toby Liston has a great record in selling mares that grow in value for their new owners and the same can be said for Ready to Belong. During the week we were offered over 3 times the price we purchased her for but knocked back the offer as we are committed to providing Spirit of Boom with the best mares we can.

Finally, as yearlings are being nominated for the respective sales and catalogues to be released in the upcoming months we are committed to purchasing at the January Magic Millions. With this in mind we are looking to get our client pool together so we can target the horses that fit into people’s budgets and can select accordingly.
