Straight from the horse’s mouth - Temple's 10,000

22 May 2015

The race that all Queenslanders want to win again takes place tomorrow.

The Doomben 10000 is a race us thoroughbreds grow up wanting to win. Unlike the Straddie, which is a handicap, the weight for conditions of this feature mean that it’s a tailor-made proposition where the best horse usually wins. Ofcourse you’d expect I’d say that having won it last year, but history says it's a race where the quality nudges their head forward NOL.

When you look at this year’s race it’s a pretty even bunch of horses with barriers and jockeys likely to provide the X factor. That being said there’s good and bad news there for big bro. The bad is that he’s drawn the car park which makes it look an impossible task. Well judging by the betting that's what the outside world also think. The plusses though are he has Roddy on board who gave me the gun ride in this race last year, taking no prisoners in order to get me out and balanced. The rest is history, but had he not given me that ride, who knows what would have happened. From the outside gate he’ll roll Temple forward and look for a forward position one off the fence. Easier than what it sounds but hey you don't put the best jockeys on to expect anything different. Ideally then he lets a few go around him at the 600m and sticks close to the rails, holding Temple up for one final sprint at them, piloting him between horses. Just call me the ultimate strategist!

Temple will be somewhat fitter, as the old boy definitely returned a bit tubby. The dogs, cats, thoroughbreds, humans are talking out here and would you believe it, the birds are even singing. If he gets a half economic run he’ll be in the finish up to his eyeballs.

I overheard the boss during the week say I was looking at less mares this year than last. What's the go with that breeders? I’m not one for one night stands and will have you know I look after the ladies like .. well .. ladies. As I said last week I go above and beyond, with the ladies always at the forefront of my mind. Couple that with the foals I will produce,  you would be mad not to return. Also crazy for others looking for a stallion not to consider me. For those with short memories and forgotten my prowess, I’m a dual Group 1 winner and I tell you now if I didn't have my manhood, there’d have been plenty more of those! I just couldn't control my emotion at times  when a good type of lady entered the parade ring! A listed winning 2-year-old and Group 2 placed. So if you come to me you have, as I’ve neighed about time and time again, got every chance to get a Magic Millions 2 year old champion or one that will be still going strong as a 6-year-old winning Group 1's. Both the big bro and I stand testament to that. My female line has improved with each dam .. with my mother Temple Spirit being a black type place-getter whilst winning 8 of her 16 races.

What a day ahead on Saturday, would love to be there to cheer on the Temple, but I guess I’ll just follow my set race-day protocols from last run. I’m told the boss didn't even know I was in his palatial palace? Hopefully this time though I’ll be neighing the roof off the place with a big brother win!

Go the Booms.
