Straight from the horse’s mouth - Some competition in Qld

15 May 2015

Just when I thought it was going to be an easy year attracting the ladies after my supreme maiden season fertility rate, the guys at Eliza Park have shown their hand.

They’re obviously worried about me as they’ve transferred Black Caviar's sire, Bel Esprit to their stallion ranks up here in Queensland. This highlights the competition amongst us sires in Queensland and is definitely a by-product of the best incentive scheme in racing provided by this State. I’m sure he’ll attract plenty of support, but hey judging by the recent broodmare sales and the upcoming Magic Millions sales there are enough out there for us to share. With more than 800 set to parade at the Magic Millions broodmares sales following similar showings at the sales down south, there’s no doubting you human folk are a fickle lot. It seems I may have to act the psychiatrist when some of these ladies head out to visit and sort out their mental well being .. all part of the Boomster’s service.

I heard the boss out here has bought a couple of nice ones and I think it is safe to assume they’ll venture into my barn at some stage in the upcoming months. The more the merrier I say... Bring it on!

The chill of the winter breeze is starting to be felt out here. I’ve got to say though, with it comes some very fond memories of this time last year where myself and the big bro took all before us claiming the winter riches twice and being in the first 4 all starts over the carnival. As I put hoof to paper, Temple is only an hour or so away from taking to the track in the BTC Cup. I guess if I hold off I can report on his performance and well I am going to just do that, see you in an hour or 2 with the end of this blog. In the meantime I might holler for a carrot, a bin full of my favourite oats and with the boss away, kick my hooves up and watch Temple from the palatial surrounds of the main lounge room. What he don't know won't hurt him. :)

I’m back!! After slipping in to watch big brother, gee the bosses lounge is very comfortable I must say. The old fella ran his heart out as usual but was given a fair bit to do to circle them on the turn and balance up. In truth he was travelling the best out of any horse 400m out. The best I’ve seen him ever perform is when he is disappointed for a run, before getting out late and using his short, sharp sprint. When he has to go between horses he loves it. The Gilgai stakes is the best case in point where he made the others look like they were stuck to the ground. He’s a pretty mild lad, but I think being the older statesman he takes it personal and savages the line. If he can get that run in 2 weeks time he just about will win the race I conquered last year, beating Temple in the time honoured Doomben 10,000.

From now until then though, when I next check in, do yourselves a favour and get a copy of the Magic Millions broodmare sales catalogue. You’ll find some very impressive horse flesh of which a few might even find time to come out this way and enjoy the time of their lives at Eureka. Oh Eureka!! What could be better than a bit of Spirit love I ask? NOL

Until then
