BRT Updates as Gibbo Heads Interstate

31 Mar 2017

Gibbo's Gems - A ride across 3 States.

After his only tip last week running down the track on the wet track and the likelihood of Doomben being off Gibbo has searched interstate for his selections this weekend. He goes across 3 states in search for winners this weekend.

His Thoughts below :

Filthy the wet has turned things upside down lately but looking interstate for a few this week.

Sydney race 7 no.2 GINGERNUTS $3.40
May be a year that the kiwis just have an edge. This bloke handles all conditions and has a great turn of foot for a stayer. Has to be the one to beat.

Adelaide race 9 no.8 VIDDORA $2.90
High quality mate who has form around SHIEDEL, HEATHERLY and some other top liners recently. This is an ideal target and gets a nice run from the good gate.

Bendigo race 8 no.13 NINAS BALLERINA $7
Price has some time for this filly and although it's hard to go from maiden to listed winner in two runs she gets the gun trail and every chance.

Best roughie
Will be throwing in EXOCET Sydney race 5 no.6 into trifectas at around $31. A very even race but she is high quality and should get through the ground.

Good Punting!!!

Magic Millions January Sale - Update

Star Witness - Casual Friday

She is nearly at the end of being broken in with all reports being she has taken everything in her stride. Her half brother Matty despite a couple of run of outs still looks very promising. He didn't handle the Flemington straight at all 2 starts ago and last week at Moonee Valley reared up when the gates open to miss the start hopelessly. The fact he was able to get past a handful demonstrated his true ability.

Also the 2 year old full sister has now been named Lucky Cat and is being trained by Darren Weir, we will get an indication of her ability over the coming month. She is a great buy at the price with the mother Casual Friday being a high quality mare who has plenty of years in the breeding barn ahead of her. She will be the focus of our radio campaign as we strive to find our next Group 1 horse.

Sydney Inglis Classic Sale - Update

Smart Missile - Adio Colt

This colt is doing everything asked of him after impressing greatly in the first phase of him being broken in. He is a big strong colt who has plenty of Lonhro of him through the 1st Dam Adio. There hasn't been a stack happening with him other than he has settled in very well out at Eureka Stud and continues to tick all the boxes.

I am a big fan of him as I love his sire Smart Missile who I have no doubt will make a mark with his progeny and leave high class thoroughbreds on the ground. Click on the link below for prices on this colt.

Hinchinbrook - Mezmar Filly

This girl is also currently at the back end of being broken in. She too is ticking all the boxes as her Sire continues to kick goals. To say Hinchinbrook is an underrated stallion is not giving him justice. When you search through his time at stud his record is up their with the very best of them, leading 2 year old and 3 year old stallion of his year speaks volumes for that.

To be able to purchase a share in his progeny below his service price when you take out the first 6 months training and associated costs included in the share price are very few and far between. As I have stated previously Angus McAlpine from Eureka Stud still likes her the best which when you consider the amount of horses he encounters at the stud is a good testament to her.  QTIS March Sales - Updates

We ended up with 2 Spirit of Boom fillies from the QTIS sales as well as a Golden Archer colt. We are very happy with all 3 as we look to privately syndicate them through our database, family and friends. For more information on the purchases from this sale  head to

Spirit of Boom - Swing and Miss Filly

This girl by our Group 1 winning stallion Spirit of Boom went directly from the sale to be broken in at Bahram Park in Toowoomba. She definitely has a bit of attitude particularly when it comes to dinner time and at times can be highly strung. It will be nothing that the horse manners guru Angus McAlpine won't be able to sort out and all the best horses or athletes for that matter have attitude. Whilst being a late foal that doesn't mean she hasn't got a chance of being able to go early, the fact she is currently at the breakers gives her a chance to be up and running early.

I sound like a broken record but we have the upmost confidence in Spirit of Boom being able to make his mark on the Qld racing scene. He has served big numbers and whilst the quality of mares across the board are average compared to the southern state sires his main rivals are those from this state whose stallion base have also received similar mares.

Golden Archer - Sweet Cherub Colt

This colt from the draft of Raheen Stud has already had 2 significant pedigree updates since the sale with the dam Sweet Cherub sister Beatniks again winning in town in the meantime taking her prize money past $350,000. In truth we bought this fellow on the advice of Raheen Stud Boss Basil Nolen Jnr, he is a great guy and we wanted to get a yearling from his draft.

He also said in his chat that this fellow would have a pedigree update in a few days with his half sister in at Doomben. That didn't eventuate as she was scratched but some 4 days later true to his word Sonador Angel saluted in demanding fashion at the Sunshine Coast. He too went straight to Bahram Park to be broken in and is now 8 days into the process.

We are hoping that this fellow will get up and go early like his father who won 5 races in his 2 year old season.

Spirit of Boom - Moroccan Dancer Filly

The final purchase for us was the other Spirit of Boom filly out of Moroccan Dancer who is by the leading broodmare sire in this country General Nediym who has produced 3 group 1 winners this racing season and rattled up statistics which put the great broodmare sires Encosta De Lago and Danehill on the hop.

The 2nd dam Armanjena had her Zoustar colt sell for $300,000 at this years Magic Millions January sale and with a return to that stallion and a Fighting Sun on the ground pedigree updates are a major possibility.

This filly also headed straight to be broken in and again any progeny of Spirit of Boom will have the chance of running early. She is now 11 days into her breaking in preparation and another who is going through the process with no issues.

We tend to forget how precocious Spirit of Boom was... listed place beaten a lip in the first 2 year old stakes race of the year before winning the Magic Millions Prelude by 7 lengths, the same race his Group 1 winning brother Temple of Boom won the year before also by a big margin.
