Representing Queensland in today's Twenty/20 women's cricket semi final against Victoria at the SCG, 18 year-old fast bowler Holly Ferling is looking to replicate more recent form, where she claimed some valuable scalps during the Southern Stars Ashes campaign.
“I've finally been able to a hit a rhythm in the Twenty/20 format having tweaked a few things that seem to be working for me in the shorter form of the game,” confirmed Ferling.
“More than anything I want to do really well for Queensland and if we're able to secure a chance to become National champions it'll be an awesome result for all the hard work the team has put in across the season.”The teenager collected two wickets in a man-of-the-match performance in game two of the T20 series against England, backing that up with a solid spell of bowling in the third and final match, leaking just 12 runs from her four overs.
But enforced changes through injury are of most concern for the Queenslanders.
“Our captain Jodie Fields is still recovering from the finger injury which kept her out of the final Ashes matches, but Beth Mooney has skippered the side before and will also take the keeper's gloves in the field,” added Ferling.
“We've also got Haidee Birkett, an 18 year-old bowler from Charters Towers coming into the side who's sure to be up for a big game against Victoria.”
The game also represents an opportunity for Ferling to stake a further claim towards gaining a spot in the Southern Stars team to contest the T20 World Cup in Bangladesh, where the side has drawn New Zealand in their opening fixture on 24 March.
