FERLING EYES T20 WORLD CUP GLORY IN BANGLADESH

19 Mar 2014

Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars fast bowler Holly Ferling is looking forward to Australia's opening Twenty/20 World Cup fixture against New Zealand in Bangladesh on March 23.

Having departed for the sub-continent last weekend following an intense two-day camp in Melbourne, the side rallied to a 19-run warm-up victory against Sri Lanka and will enjoy more game time taking on the West Indies this Friday prior to their campaign proper.

“I'm expecting the wickets in Bangladesh to be typical sub-continent; slow and favouring spin,” confessed Ferling.

“However I have been told that Sylhet, where our round games are played, has pitches that are similar to the pace and bounce in Australia.

“India last year surprised me with the bounce and carry that the pace attack could get, so fingers crossed Bangladesh will be the same.”

Despite being one of the chief destroyers in the Southern Stars T20 and limited overs bowling attack during the recently completed Ashes series against England, Ferling hasn’t been complacent, putting in a lot of extra training to refine her technique.

The 18 year-old wants to perfect her execution in all bowling variations in order to build the pressure and ensure opposition batters have to play outside of their comfort zone to score runs.

“We finished the Ashes strong, beating the English convincingly in the T20s and hope to replicate that same ruthlessness coming into this tournament.

“There's a bit of pressure due to us being back-to-back World Champions so we just have to take every game as it comes and make sure we play our best cricket.”

Joining Ferling as part of the defending World Champion squad are fellow Queenslanders Jess Jonassen, Delissa Kimmince and Beth Mooney,

The Fire quartet looking forward to carrying winning momentum into their World Cup campaign.

“I'm still feeling really fortunate to be a part of this team. 2014 started off with a bang with Queensland's first ever national T20 league title, so hopefully we can add even more silverware.”
